Why Visit the Lake District in Spring?
While the heat of summer is often considered the ideal time for a getaway, Spring is perfect for a romantic break. There’s often less traffic on the road and tourist attractions can be less busy than usual.
As for the weather, although we can’t guarantee clear skies and a lack of rain, we’d be willing to say it’s better than winter! Plus, the change in season helps bring out the very best in nature. Whereby fields of bluebells and daffodils are in full bloom.
Then there’s the start of new life, as Spring in the Lake District brings with it the newborn Herdwick lambs. They’re so cute if you have the opportunity of visiting a nearby farm or simply keep an eye out during trips into the countryside.
Things to do in Spring at the Lakes
If it’s a case of stretching those legs, then Dorothy’s Farrer’s Spring Wood is the perfect spot for the aforementioned bluebells. It’s a notorious beauty spot during the Spring and not too far from Lake Windermere.
It’s also pretty special for a romantic picnic spot, although the likes of Windermere Jetty are even closer to our spa hotel. The lighter evenings mean you get out with a loved one and watch the sunset together. Alternatively, how about watching the sunrise from the comfort of an outdoor hot tub?
The calmer water also means it’s a good time of year to venture out on a river cruise. With the likes of Coniston Steamer or Windermere Lake Cruises again slightly quieter than the summer months.
As for other ideas, check local listings for one-off events and festivals or stick to the tried and tested pubs and restaurants. Along with all the usual tourist haunts, but without it being peak season!
